Raising a laugh in Beverley

A new Beverley comedy festival is all set to provide a rib-tickling weekend, taking centre stage at The Tiger Inn in Lairgate from this Friday evening (July 20), with a total of 31 shows for children, families and adults. And the unique thing is, Beverley Laughs is a pay what you feel event, with a bucket collection at the end of each show. Free Priority Tickets are also available for all shows via

Kicking things off on Friday at 7.45pm is stand-up comedian Laurence Clark, a disability rights campaigner who was born with cerebral palsy and uses his comedy to try to alter perceptions of disabled people. He starred in the BBC One documentary, We Won’t Drop the Baby and recently featured on The One Show. He’s also currently developing a sitcom for Channel 4.

From 12 noon to 4pm on the Saturday and Sunday there will be a dedicated family area including a barbecue, ice cream van, sweet stall, face painting, and an appearance from Wonder Woman along with a selection of one hour children & family shows. Rounding things off on Sunday night at 9pm is Rob Rouse, whose TV credits include presenting the first series of The Friday Night Project on Channel 4, the Channel 4 sketch show Spoons, and playing Mike in the first series of the BBC3 sitcom Grown Ups.
