Racecourse in the running for four honours

Racing fans of the future enjoying themselves during Family Week at the racecourse

Beverley Racecourse has been named as four-time finalists for the prestigious Showcase & Awards, hosted by the Racecourse Association (RCA) in partnership with Moët Hennessy and Racing Post. The annual awards celebrate first-class customer experience

Beverley has been listed as a finalist in the Community & Corporate Social Responsibility, Top Spot, Food & Beverage and Love of the Sport categories, the only racecourse in the country to be shortlisted for four separate initiatives. The winners will be revealed at an awards ceremony on November 16th at Newbury Racecourse.

The Community & Corporate Social Responsibility Award recognises initiatives relating to the local community, environment or charitable causes. The Top Spot Award is looking for standalone initiatives, large or small, that enrich the racecourse brand and/or raceday experience for customers. The Food & Beverage Award identifies excellence and innovation in racecourse food and drink quality and service and the Love of the Sport Award celebrates initiatives that both enrich and extend the reach of the sport to customers.

The racecourse’s partnership with Yorkshire Cancer Research alerted racegoers to the dangers of sun damage

Beverley Racecourse particularly impressed the judges with their Yorkshire Cancer Research Partnership, promoting the use of sun cream and UV-sensitive wristbands that alert the wearer to the dangers of sun damage. The Bark de Triomphe, a comedy race for jockeys’ dogs was shortlisted for the Top Spot category and the racecourse’s partnership with the superb Winteringham Fields impressed in the Food & Beverage category. Finally, it was Family Week with Hull FC and Beverley Racecourse, a week-long celebration of racing and rugby that won a spot in the Love of the Sport category.

Sally Iggulden, Chief Executive at Beverley Racecourse, said: “The Showcase Awards are the racing industry awards that everyone wants to win, so to be shortlisted for four separate awards is an incredible achievement by the small team here at Beverley. To sit alongside the likes of Ascot and York in a fiercely competitive leisure
industry is an achievement in itself, and really puts Beverley on the map as one of the most innovative racecourses in the country.”

Stephen Atkin, RCA Chief Executive, said, “I am delighted for Beverley Racecourse for their success in being named a Finalist at the 2017 Showcase & Awards.

“It is a highlight of our year to see all of the quality Showcase Awards submissions go before the judges to measure the impact and growth of the initiatives that our racecourses have delivered and clearly Beverley have enjoyed an exceptional year.
