Queen honours Beverley surgeon
Beverley surgeon Nick Stafford was made an OBE in The Queen’s New Year’s Honours List. Professor Stafford, who retired last year, is a past director of Hull University’s Postgraduate Medical Institute and founder of The Daisy Appeal, which since it was launched in the year 2000, has raised 12 and a half million pounds to fund cutting-edge research and state-of-the-art equipment and facilities at Castle Hill Hospital in Cottingham. Prof Stafford received his honour for services to medical research and healthcare.
Among others honoured were playwright John Godber, who is an Ambassador for Beverley’s East Riding Theatre, who received an OBE for services to the arts, Debbie Heald, managing director of Hornsea-based family firm Heald, who was made an MBE, and Hull’s Bee Lady fundraiser Jean Bishop, who received the British Empire Medal.
