PR: Brigg Town vs Hall Road Rangers

Hall Road Rangers travel to The EC Surfacing Stadium on Saturday afternoon to take on Brigg Town in what’s set to be a stern test. Hall Road’s last visit to Brigg took place in the 2016/17 season. Chris Spinks bagged a brace to secure Rangers all three points on the night in a 0-2 win.

Currently sitting in 2nd place in the NCEL Division One table, Marcus Newell’s team are unbeaten in nine league games which includes eight successive wins. Moreover, they’ve only lost one game which was against Selby Town.

The Zebras have a couple of very potent goal threats in former Hall Road players Scott Phillips and Alfie Usher. Phillips and Usher have a combined total of 23 goals in all competitions between them so far this season.

However, they aren’t the only dangerous attackers in Brigg’s team. Dayle Hutson has nine goals in all competitions whilst Andy Taylor possesses a tally of six league goals and Martin Pembleton has six goals in all competitions. Brigg’s goalscoring exploits are emphasised by the fact that they have the second-best attack in the league with 47 goals scored in their first 12 games.

At the other end of the pitch, the Zebras have the joint fourth-best defence in NCEL Division One having only conceded 17 goals and have also recorded four clean sheets.

Rangers joint boss Leon Sewell wants his side to build on last Saturday’s second-half performance against Rossington Main.

“We’ll go again on Saturday away at Brigg. I look forward to getting across there. They’ve got good facilities and a nice playing surface. We kept the ball well against Rossington and played some good football with two and three touches. That’s what we’ll be looking to do moving forward” Sewell said.
