Police plea after woman is attacked
Police have issued an urgent appeal for a couple who came to the aid of a woman being attacked in Beverley to come forward as they step up their search for a gang of 17 and 18 year olds. They said the couple were walking their dog in Cherry Tree Lane when they went to the aid of the woman last Friday night (December 29th).
In a statement issued to Beverley FM, a police spokesman said: “We want to speak to a couple walking their dog who frightened off a group of youths who were attempting to rob a woman close to the junction with Knights Way. The woman was confronted by the group of 17-18 year-olds around five past seven that evening, who surrounded her and demanded money and her mobile phone, before assaulting her, injuring her face.”
The statement continued: “The group fled empty handed when the dog walkers responded to her cry for help.” Police say the youths all wore dark-coloured hoodies and had local accents. They say they would like to speak to the couple who went to the aid of the victim or anyone else who witnessed or has information about the incident. If you can help, please call 101 quoting crime reference number 16/73685/17.
