Nostell Miners Welfare 5-0 Hall Road

It was another disappointing afternoon for Hall Road Rangers on Saturday as they lost 5-0 at Nostell Miners Welfare. The hosts controlled the game in the first half and were the more creative side in front of goal. They came close to taking the lead in the 2nd minute when Nathan Hawkhead put an effort just wide of the Rangers goal.

Nostell took the lead in the 15th minute as a free-kick from Anees Younis found Joe Kenny inside the Rangers box and he subsequently tucked the ball home. Welfare doubled their advantage in the 29th minute through a calm finish from Anees Younis. Just before the break, the hosts extended their lead thanks to an excellent strike from Danny Edwards.

A change in shape at the beginning of the second half initially appeared to allow Hall Road the opportunity to work themselves back into the game. However, the hosts eventually regained their supremacy and got their fourth goal in the 69th minute as Joe Wood’s deflected effort found the back of the net. The fifth and final Nostell goal came in the closing stages of the game. An indirect free-kick lead to Danny Edwards firing the ball home to claim his second goal of the game.

Rangers joint-manager Leon Sewell was far from impressed with his side’s display.

“First and foremost, it wasn’t good enough. I thought we actually started quite well in the first 15-20 minutes. I thought we probably just edged it a little bit.

There was a total lack of concentration for all five goals and we were punished. We changed a few things at halftime going into the second half and we probably looked a bit more comfortable. However, we still switched off and conceded two more goals.

It’s not acceptable and it wasn’t good enough” he said.
