North Ferriby 1-1 Ollerton Town

The cruel side of football reared its ugly head as North Ferriby had to settle for a draw with a last-minute Ollerton deflected equaliser at the Dransfield on Saturday. The home side totally dominated the game creating another mountain of chances but were dealt the late cruel blow.

Ferriby also had to deal with the fact skipper Niall Tilsley was sent off on 35 minutes for a second bookable offence having been harshly cautioned in the first minute. Tilsley went up for a challenge ten minutes from the break which the referee deemed to be unfair and brandished the second yellow and subsequent red.

As has been the case in most of the Ferriby games they pushed forward creating chances for the full game and this was a game where they just couldn’t find the net until late on. There were early chances from Danny Emerton, Danny East, Levi Tarbotton and new signing this week from Glasshoughton Josh Whiteley.

Whiteley showed up well on his debut with some neat touches and shots on goal but not on target much was Ferriby’s frustration throughout the game. Tom Corner was also dominant but whatever Ferriby tried great goalkeeping by Ollerton’s Levi Owen denied them time and again.

Things had to be tweaked on 35 minutes when Ferriby lost Tilsley but this was no worse than fouls committed by the visitors throughout the game which went unpunished. This was especially so just four minutes earlier when East looked to be elbowed in a challenge and needed treatment.

Late in the first half Ferriby Jamie Forrester was hauled down 25 yards out before East was blatantly tripped as he went through. Just free kicks were awarded but despite their best efforts, the home side couldn’t find the back of the net and the first half ended 0-0.

Tom Corner had the best chances as the second half opened with a couple of shots and a claim for a penalty which was again waved away. Ferriby then made a double substitution with Danny Buttle and Jason Mycoe coming on for Ben Leyland and Whiteley then Oliver Kemp picked up a hamstring injury to be replaced by Josh Dennett.

The deadlock was finally broken on 77 minutes with a goal of pure quality from Danny Emerton with an exquisite left-foot strike which gave Owens no chance. Even after the goal, Ferriby continued to press with East heading over and Forrester sending in a free-kick when Louis Kirk was upended without punishment.

Well into injury time Ferriby looked to be continuing their great winning run but things changed in just one speculative shot. From around 25 yards out Ben Partridge unleashed a shot on goal, only their second in the game, and which took a wicked deflection to loop over the helpless Jordan Douglas.
