North Ferriby 1-0 Nostell Miners Welfare

North Ferriby have gone six points clear in the Northern Counties East League Division One after a scrappy 1-0 home win over Nostell Miners Welfare on Saturday. Ferriby remain the only unbeaten team in the league having continued a run which now sees them 19 games without defeat.

This was a game where the home side created an abundance of chances had the lions share of possession but could only hit the target with one goal. It came with twenty minutes to go when the striker finally got the ball past the impressive Lloyd Allanson in the Nostell goal.

The Ferriby domination saw early chances to Whiteley, Tom Corner and Joel Shortland but they all failed to find the net. Whiteley then had a great chance to open the Villagers account when he took a ball from a Corner header as he turned inside only to see his shot hit the bar and go over.

There were further chances inside the Nostell box midway through the half when a Levi Tarbotton header, Louis Kirk shot and Danny Emerton rebound were all saved or kicked off the line. The first Nostell chance fell to Bruno Bagi but his tame shot was easily saved by Jordan Douglas as the sides went in at the break level and goalless.

The game wasn’t really troubled by the stormy weather until the latter stages when the sleet came down but the second half saw Danny East, who had picked up a hamstring injury, replaced by Jamie Forrester. The chances continued to fall the Villagers way but Corner failed on two occasions to find the target.

Manager Chris Bolder was forced into another change on 52 minute when Niall Tilsley was forced off also with a hamstring problem to be replaced by Matty Plummer. Ferriby remained solid at the back despite the long ball game from Nostell but couldn’t quite find the breakthrough.

The goal finally came after great work by Emerton who forced yet another corner for the Villagers and this time it saw the ball hit the net. Emerton put the ball in for Tarbotton to head the ball back across at the back post leaving Whiteley an easy tap in for 1-0.

The weather got worse so it made for slippery conditions but there was no issue with a minute of normal time to go as Brett Smith over zealously fouled Corner. With the striker needing treatment the referee took the option to send off the midfielder as time ran out and another win was secured.
