MP urges support for Post Office petition
Local MP Graham Stuart is urging as many people as possible to sign a petition launched by the Beverley and Holderness Conservative Association, protesting at plans to close Beverley’s Crown Post Office, and he has pledged to personally deliver all the objections to the Chief Executive of the Post Office.
Mr Stuart told Beverley FM: “I will continue to do all I can to support my constituents on this issue by lobbying the Post Office and the Minister.”
As previously reported by Beverley FM, the plan is to close the post office in Register Square and move services to within the W H Smith store in Toll Gavel. Mr Stuart told us: “It’s clear that feelings are running high against this proposal. I want to make sure we’re ready to jump into action against the Post Office’s proposals when the public consultation is announced. This means we need to collect as many petition signatures as possible, and as many individual letters or emails as we can muster.”
It’s an issue that’s gained cross-party support, with both the local Labour Party and Liberal Democrat councillor Dennis Healy also launching petitions. Anyone wishing to email Mr Stuart can do so at at firstname.lastname@example.org with the reasons why they think the Post Office should stay where it is.
