Monk’s Walk ‘dream’ lives on . . .
News that the widow of former Monk’s Walk licensee Neil Pickford has bought the historic Beverley pub has been welcomed by hundreds of well-wishers. Neil, a former Beverley Minster Virger, sadly died last October before realising a long-held dream to own the 13th century building.
Now his widow, Gill, has bought the Highgate pub and pledged that it will be business as usual. She said: “We want to keep it as a community venue and the sort of great place he wanted it to be.”
She said she felt “great joy” at realising Neil’s dream. “I have had fantastic support from the staff, our customers, our neighbours, the Minster and people in the town, it has been marvellous,” she said, continuing: “My sons have both been very supportive and helped me through and they will continue to support me, even though one has his own career and the other is still at university.”
