After being silent for more than a year because of the pandemic, tonight will see members of East Riding County Choir in rehearsal in St Mary’s Church, Beverley, as it prepares for a performance of Handel’s Messiah in The Minster in December. A full programme of rehearsals has been arranged under the choir’s new Director of Music, Paul Dewhurst, ahead of that concert and also a carol concert in Bridlington Priory on December 17. The choir is keen to welcome new members, especially tenors and sopranos.

Three members of the same family who work at the Defence School of Transport at Leconfield have been honoured with Civil Service long service awards. Dave Knowles was still in the Army when he was posted to Leconfield in 1989; his wife Sue joined the Defence School as a civil servant the following year, followed by daughter Beckie 10 years later. Dave stayed on at Leconfield as a civilian instructor after leaving the Army in 1994. And together they have clocked up almost 80 years service.

And finally, Beverley’s YMCA charity shop is currently appealing for both donations to help boost stock levels in its Wednesday Market shop and also volunteers to keep it running seven days a week. In addition the charity is also currently advertising for an assistant store manager as a paid position. [More information here]
