HUMBERSIDE Fire and Rescue Service wants to shine a light on the area’s unsung heroes by inviting people to nominate someone for the service’s annual awards. A spokesperson told us: “Do you know someone who has a positive influence on someone’s life, goes beyond the call of duty or shows courage and kindness? If so, nominate your unsung hero for a chance to receive the Unsung Hero Award at this year’s Humberside Fire and Rescue Service’s Recognition Awards.”
The closing date for nominations is Friday June 30 ahead of the awards ceremony at the MKM Stadium in Hull in November. More information here
BEVERLEY Building Society is inviting people to pop into their Saturday Market offices and pick up a plant in return for a small donation to support efforts for this year’s charity of the year. The society is hoping to raise £12,000 for Dove House Hospice and has already past the half-way mark.
ALL HALLOWS Church in Walkington will be the venue for a weekend flower festival to raise funds for the upkeep of the church. It’s being held from June 30 – July 2. Churchwarden Alison Penton told us: “We will not be using any plastic or oasis in the arrangements and the decorations will all have a natural look using flowers and foliage from village gardens where possible and only using British flowers if we have to buy any extra. Entry is by donation and refreshments will be available each day.”
There will also be a concert by Beverley Community Choir on the Saturday evening (July 1), at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £8, to include a glass of wine and nibbles.
