A former High Sheriff of the East Riding, Andrew Marr, who lives in Beverley, was awarded a CBE in the New Year’s Honours List. Mr Marr is chairman of Andrew Marr International Ltd and received his honour in recognition of his services to the UK Fishing Industry. Mr Marr served as High Sheriff of the East Riding of Yorkshire from 1999-2000 and was appointed Vice Lord-Lieutenant of the East Riding of Yorkshire in 2011. He is an Honorary Freeman of Beverley and is President of the Beverley Civic Society. Also honoured was Kester Sharpe, of Beverley, who received an MBE for her services to Young People, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic. She served as the Deputy UK Chief Commissioner for The Scouts between 2017 and 2021.

Beverley FM previously reported that Helen Gibson, a former Beverley High School student who works globally to help governments tackle challenges including pandemics, terrorism, corruption, war crimes and modern slavery, had been awarded the MBE in the New Year’s Honours List for services to international trade (see Saturday’s Local News).

Humberside Police reported a successful conclusion to its Operation Yuletide crime initiative, which ran during December. During the month 741 arrests were made for offences such as fraud, drink and drug driving, domestic abuse, sexual offences and burglary. Deputy Chief Constable Paul Anderson  told Beverley FM: “These types of crimes can affect anyone, particularly our most vulnerable, which is why our approach is to tackle these crimes head on and proactively, aiming to prevent where we can.”
