RAIL SERVICES in Beverley will be hit on two days running this week, train operator Northern has told us. There will be no Northern services at all on Friday, when ASLEF members – most of whom are employed as train drivers – stage their latest walk out.
The following day, Saturday September 2, RMT Union members will go on strike; Northern say very limited services will operate across its region but it’s unlikely there will be any trains from Beverley, based on last week’s action.
BEVERLEY Building Society staff will embark on a 340-mile “coast-to-coast”-themed bike challenge from October 2 – 6 to raise money for the society’s charity of the year, Dove House Hospice. But it will take place without anyone actually leaving Beverley, for participants will clock up the miles on an exercise bike.
It’s the latest initiative in the society’s year-long fund-raiser, with staff joining forces to cycle as fast as they can, relay style, to reach the 340 mile target over 5 days – that’s the equivalent round trip distance of the well-known Way of the Roses, from Bridlington, in Yorkshire to Morecambe, in Lancashire. Donations are being invited via the society’s Saturday Market office or online.
EAST RIDING Youth Dance’s community dance programme for 8-18-year-olds returns for the autumn term, starting week beginning September 11, with sessions at various venues, including Beverley Memorial Hall. Full details here
