The vicar of St Mary’s Church in Beverley has thanked local people for their support after inaccurate coverage in a national newspaper about restoration work generated hundreds of abusive comments.  Writing on social media, Rev Becky Lumley said they knew nothing of the story until spotting posts on Facebook because they hadn’t been contacted by the journalist over the plan for female icons. She praised residents for not showing the same misogyny. Beverley FM has approached Mail Online for a response.

Support for people suffering from mental health issues, using baking as a tactic, is being launched in Beverley.  Resident Lee Edwards, from 42nd East Bakehouse at St Mary’s Court, North Bar Within, is starting the Good Mood Club on Tuesdays between 10 and 3. He’ll offer baking space, recipes and ingredients to anyone who is struggling, and give them an opportunity to talk: https://42ndeastbakehouse.com/pages/good-mood-club – Lee will be chatting to Alex Dunn on the Breakfast Show this Thursday 27 May at 9am

New funding of up to £3,000 a year is on offer to Beverley groups for ongoing projects such as events and longer-term initiatives. The Town Council’s introduced partnership grants to run for a three-year period. It’s also asking organisations about other practical support that they need: https://www.beverley.gov.uk/new-partnership-grants-launched/
