He will be reading from a range of his poetry when he appears on stage at East Riding Theatre on February 16 as well as taking part in a Q&A with members of the audience. Other artists booked so far include Jon Boden, best known as lead singer of progressive folk band Bellowhead, and the New York Brass Band. The festival runs from February 15 to the 20th and has added an additional venue this year, with events being held at Cafe Velo as well as the Monks Walk and the main HQ, the East Riding theatre.

Plans by BT to refurbish a telephone box in Main Street, Tickton, has meant the closure of the village’s volunteer-run community library which had taken over the space. Residents were asked to clear books and shelving from the telephone box and these are now being stored by the Tickton & Routh Parish Council. A council spokesman said: “The Parish Council is aware that the library is a valuable resource to many residents. In response, a range of options will be considered with a view to providing a long-term outdoor library within the community.”

And finally, Leven Parish Council’s annual Christmas tree lights switch-on is scheduled for Sunday, December 5 at 5pm. Leven Scouts will be providing refreshments.
