THERE WAS a sense of shock and disbelief on social media at the weekend when one of Beverley’s most acclaimed restaurants, Wild Sage, in Lairgate announced it was closing with immediate effect. The 14-seat restaurant, described by numerous food critics as “a hidden gem” was known for serving judiciously-sourced regional ingredients to create deceptively simply but beautiful modern dishes, and was opened in 2020 by Mark Langton and Becky Flower.
In a posting on its Facebook page on Saturday, customers were told: “It is with deep sorrow that Wild Sage is now closed as of today. Unfortunately it just wasn’t meant to be. Thank-you to all who have supported us by being a customer, supplier and friend. We have definitely learnt from this experience and we will now be moving on with our lives separately.”
Both Mark and Becky had held head chef positions prior to opening Wild Sage and had worked together at 1884 Dock Street Kitchen in Hull and Cucina in Hessle. More than 40 people responded to the post expressing shock and sadness at the news, including another former restaurateur James MacLeod-Birch, who said: “We genuinely thought you were the ones to buck the very sad trend that is befalling most hospitality venues at the moment.”
FORMER Beautiful South singer Briana Corrigan, who sang the chart-topping A Little More Time, has announced she will be appearing at the Sun Inn in Beverley on October 4. Limited tickets are on sale now, costing £20 plus booking fee. Promoter Chris Lee said: “This is a rare opportunity to hear Corrigan up close and personal at an intimate setting.”
