A man is in a critical condition with a life-threatening head injury after he was knocked down by a car on the A1174 York Road near Beverley Racecourse in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police are appealing for information following the collision, which happened at around 1.50am and involved a white Nissan Juke which was travelling east, towards Beverley. The pedestrian was walking between the racecourse and Beverley town centre when he was hit. He was taken to hospital and remains in a critical condition.

Officers investigating the collision are particularly keen to hear from anybody who may have seen the man, who at the time was wearing a black suit and white shirt. They are also appealing for anyone who may have been in the area around the time of the incident, that has dashcam footage or who witnessed the collision, to contact them on their non-emergency number 101 quoting log 45 of 19 November.
