AROUND 500 spectators turned out to watch the return of The Big Beverley Pancake Race in Toll Gavel yesterday, organised by Beverley Rotary Club with support from the Town Council and Beverley Masonic Lodges. And in a keenly-fought contest, with four teams of four, it was Beverley FM who ran out winners.

Timed over an 80-metre marked course, the race took the form of a relay event with each team member having to stop at designated points to flip their pancakes. Representing Beverley FM were our sports team, comprising sports editor Simon Bromwich, along with Martin Cattle, George Dean and Ethan Dalton, who received their medals from the Mayor of Beverley, Cllr Linda Johnson. Our collection buckets raised the grand total of £259 for the Turkish Earthquake Appeal.
THE MOLESCROFT-Beverley Petanque Club has secured two regional events to be played out on the newly-extended petanque rink at Molescroft Pavilion. Regarded as a major achievement for what is still a very young club, Molescroft will host a Triples Open event on Sunday June 25 and a Veterans competition in August.

THE NEW Oliver Bonas store has opened in the Toll Gavel store formerly occupied by Hotters Shoes. The independent fashion and homewares chain now has 80 stores around the country. Previously the nearest one was in York.
