BEVERLEY market trader John Dyson, a stall-holder on Saturday Market for more than 50 years, retired at the weekend, receiving a send-off from other traders with a framed painting of the market square and bandstand.

Mr Dyson (pictured), who is also the current President of the National Market Traders Federation, ran a stall with his wife Pearl for a total of 57 years, specialising in socks and insoles.
A spokesperson for the National Association of British Market Authorities described Mr Dyson as “a wonder ambassador for the markets industry and the Beverley community. We wish John and Pearl every happiness,” he said.
THREE fire engines and crew using breathing apparatus tackled a major fire in a house in Beverley Road, Dunswell, on Saturday morning, which led to the road being closed in both directions.
The alarm was raised around 9.30am with the fire starting in the kitchen of the house. The kitchen was totally destroyed with extensive damage to the dining room and smoke damage to the rest of the property. At the height of the blaze smoke drifting across the road restricted visibility for drivers, who were diverted away from the scene. No one was hurt in the incident.
SATURDAY’S home game between Beverley Rugby Union Club and Hullensians was well attended and raised around £1,400 for the Hull4Heroes charity, which supports Forces veterans.
