Beverley Town Football Club has made a major step forward in its efforts to fund ground improvements that will allow the club to play at a higher standard. The club had launched a £30,000 appeal to pay for floodlights and other improvements at its Norwood ground but always admitted it was a “distant dream”.

Now, thanks to a major cash injection from East Yorkshire-based company Cranswick plc, the club has announced the target has been reached. Club development officer Richard Jagger told Beverley FM: “This is an absolutely amazing gesture by Cranswick PLC.” Other donations have come from club sponsors, the Swift Group, and from individuals. Now, having reached the target, Town can now apply for additional funding from the Football Foundation.

Beverley Town says it paves the way towards realising its ambition of promotion to the Northern Counties East League.

An independent boutique selling womenswear, jewellery and accessories has opened at Beverley’s Flemingate centre. Jo Ja Be Boutique has operated as a successful online business since last summer; now owner Jo Briggs has taken the leap to open her first bricks-and-mortar shop.

Named after Jo and her children, Jack and Beau, the shop aims to offer fashions not available elsewhere in East Yorkshire. Jo told us: “I’m looking forward to people being as passionate about our fashion lines as I am.”
