A PLANNING inspector has ruled against East Riding Council’s refusal of planning permission for up to 50 homes to be built on the site of a pig farm in Brandesburton, saying that by ruling in favour of the planning appeal it will allow the pig farm to be moved to a place where its smell is “less problematic”.

The site, off Starcarr Lane, includes the pig unit, two homes, caravan storage and skip hire. In addition to the new homes more land will be kept for parking, open space and a play area.

Having visited the site, the planning inspector said she had experienced the “significant” odour which affected the adjacent holiday home site, adding: “Importantly it would provide an opportunity to regenerate this visually intrusive site to provide an attractive mixed-use development and relocate the pig farm to a location where the odour would be less problematic.”

DETAILED timings have now been released for next month’s East Yorkshire stage of the Tour of Britain cycle race, which starts in Goole and finishes on The Westwood in Beverley. The race, on Tuesday September 5, starts in Goole at 11.30am, travelling via Howden, Holme-on-Spalding Moor, Driffield and Bridlington before reaching Hornsea at 2.32pm.

From there it heads towards Beverley, passing through Tickton at 3.12pm before  crossing the finish line close to the Racecourse at 3.26pm. Full details here
