The latest easing on lockdown sees non-essential retailers across the East Riding hoping for brisk trade from today and public services re-opening. Libraries will now allow limited browsing, sports centres are back open and Hull Trains re-starts its London services from Beverley, Hull and Brough.

Beverley Minster will continue to be open so people can light a candle and pay their respects to the memory of the Duke of Edinburgh. Church leaders invited the public in over the weekend and a bell was tolled 99 times at noon on Saturday. Private prayer is between 11 and 1, except for Thursday.

The candidates have been confirmed for two local elections on May the 6th. There will be a three-way contest for the Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner. They are Keith Hunter for Labour, Bob Morgan for the Lib Dems and Jonathan Evison as the Conservatives’ replacement candidate. That follows the decision by Craig Ulliott to step down.
