Mid-week Local Sport Update

Hull City have had a fairly busy week so far despite it being the close season. Yesterday saw goalkeeper George Long leave on a free transfer to Championship rivals Millwall. The 27-year old shot-stopper rejected the option of an extra year to his contract. During his time at the KCOM Stadium Long made 65 appearances but spent the majority of last season deputising to Matt Ingram. Tigers’ Head coach Grant McCann was voted the League One Manager of the Year by the League Manager’ Association (LMA). McCann has already picked up several individual accolades which, includes Manager of the month for January and April. This comes on the back of a successful title-winning campaign, which saw the Tigers return to the Championship at the first time of asking.
There have also been reports this week linking Turkish media mogul Acun Ilıcalı (pron. Ach-un Itch-ill-a) with a potential takeover of Hull City. The Turkish entrepreneur has previously expressed a desire to purchase an English football club.

North Ferriby announced the signing of Matty Plummer yesterday. Plummer is a former professional with Hull City and Darlington, also has gained a huge amount of experience within non-league football. He looks to strengthen the Villagers defensive options ahead of the upcoming season. Ferriby also has announced this week their preseason fixtures, which includes four home games. The first match is played away at Barton Town on the 6th of July.

And finally, the Beverley FM Sports team welcomes two guests to the studio this week. Dan Briggs the Hull City PR & Social Media Officer will be on the Thursday Night Fixture whilst Riley Somerville the young man behind the Beverley Town match reports on our website and Town’s all-round media man will join us on Saturday.
