Memorial marks town’s links with the RAF
In the run-up to Remembrance Day, an information board that shows the links the town has with the Royal Air Force was unveiled in Hengate Gardens. It was unveiled on Thursday afternoon by Squadron Leader Nick White, training officer at the Defence School of Transport, Leconfield, and Beverley Mayor, Councillor Bryan Pearson.
The board details the early days of aviation, when the Royal Flying Corps, forerunner of the RAF, operated from Beverley Westwood and then the town’s links with the RAF at Leconfield.
Squadron Leader White told us: “Whilst the RAF presence in the region is a fraction of what it used to be, we continue to be proud of our association with Beverley and thank the townspeople for this lasting memorial.”
