McDonald’s gets go-ahead
Controversial plans for a McDonald’s Restaurant and drive-through on land near the Morrison’s supermarket, off Wingfield Road in Beverley, have been approved, subject to additional information regarding the drainage of surface water being supplied. Subject to that information being satisfactory, planning councillors this week delegated the final approval to council officers. Although the developers had expressed a preference for 24-hour opening, councillors did, however, impose a restriction of 7am to 11pm opening.
An officer’s report to East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s eastern area planning sub-committee had recommended approval of the plans. Councillors were told there had been 100 letters of objection, mainly on the grounds of noise nuisance and disturbance, but also citing the lack of need for another restaurant in the town, the impact on local businesses and potential litter and anti-social behaviour problems.
The council also received 35 letters in support of the plans and were told the development will provide 30 full-time and 35 part-time jobs.
