Major pony championships underway this week
Bishop Burton College is this week hosting the highly-prestigious F E I Pony European Championships. The event, which is free to attend, started on Tuesday (August 7) and runs until Sunday and is the only equine competition of its kind to include all three Olympic disciplines of eventing, dressage and showjumping.
It will feature the finest young riding talent from across Europe, with competitors aged 16 or under from 16 countries taking part in individual and team events.
The college was chosen to be the host venue following a competitive bidding process. It previously hosted the competition in 2010 – the last time it was held in the UK – when the British eventing team rode to victory to secure the team gold in front of a home crowd.
The event launched with a spectacular opening ceremony featuring 12 stunt horses and a 34-strong mounted musical display by the Royal Horse Guards. The opening ceremony was by invitation only, but the rest of the occasion is free to attend. More information from www.bishopburtonponyeuros2018.co.uk
