Longcroft plans get go-ahead
Planners have given the go-ahead for the consolidation of Longcroft’s upper and lower schools on to the upper school site in Burton Road.
Work on the £5.7 million scheme will start in January, with completion of extensions on the Burton Road site in October 2019. At the same time the lower school site in Church Road is expected to be put up for sale for £3 million as a site for a potential 68 new homes.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council has issued the necessary planning permissions, with pledges that half the £3 million from the land sale will go to help equip the new buildings at Burton Road.
Longcroft head teacher Ian O’Donnell welcomed the news, commenting: “We look forward, with great anticipation, to taking ownership of our new building and its fantastic facilities.”
Ward councillor Denis Healy also hailed the decision and told us: “Our young people deserve world class education facilities, and this is an exciting new chapter in Longcroft’s history.” He also urged the council to help find new homes for the Scout and Cadet groups currently occupying the Church Road site.
