LOCAL RUGBY LEAGUE: This weekend’s game in a huge test
Saturday will simply be the biggest game of the season for the Blue & Golds at the East Riding (Beverley) Leisure Centre (kick off 2.30pm). It’s first takes on second in NCL division 3.
Both Beverley and Clock Face Miners have won six from their opening six games, with just superior points difference putting Beverley at the top of the table.
Head coach Scott Taylor will be in the South of France at the weekend, leaving Pat Howdle and Duncan O’Connor holding the fort. A player’s stag weekend will also deprive Beverley of the services of Lewis Straw, Bobby Howdle, Alex Calvert and Lee Stevens.
Whilst there are many natural replacements for the three absentee forwards, replacing stand-off half Lewis Straw is a more interesting problem. The return of Jack Humphries, who is normally a second row, could well be the favorite to step into the breach.
It is the first meeting between Beverley and the Clock Face Miners from St Helens. Club officials are hoping for a bumper crowd for the match, sponsored by TMX Clothing.
