Local Rugby League: Beverley in buoyant mood
Beverley Rugby League Club, the Blue & Golds, entertain Wigan St Judes at the Leisure Centre this Saturday (2.30pm kick-off ).
As the season approaches it’s climax, a tightly-contested NCL Division 2 sees eight sides still possibly in the promotion hunt. The top two get automatic promotion, with positions third to sixth contesting the play-offs.
Beverley currently lie fifth and the Wigan outfit are third, so the game may seem too close to call. The corresponding fixture back in April saw both sides play out a 40-40 draw.
At the start of the campaign, newly-promoted Beverley would have probably settled for winning just over 50 per cent of its games, which it is on target to achieve with eight wins, seven losses and a draw. However, last weekend’s emphatic derby win over Hull Dockers has raised expectations and put promotion back on the agenda.
All eyes will be on Scott Taylor’s selections. He may find it difficult to change a winning side, although Ryan Watkin is available again and may be difficult to leave out. With the dry settled weather, there could be another bumper crowd at the Leisure Centre.
