LOCAL FOOTBALL: Disappointing return for Beverley Town
Beverley Town 0 – 4 Westella & Willerby (Saturday November 10)
A perfect pitch and a big crowd awaited Beverley Town as they “came home” to Norwood Park after playing all their home games away for the past season and a half while pitch improvements were carried out. But someone had forgotten to read the script, for Town struggled from first to last minute against a team sitting six places below them in the Humber Premier League and who they had beaten 1-0 in the league just a fortnight ago. But this was an East Riding Senior Cup and we all know about cup upsets!
2-0 up at half-time; Westella doubled the score after the break and to compound matters Beverley had a player sent off; Dan McHale shown a second yellow for dissent after claiming a free-lick should have been given in the run-up to the fourth goal.
Town Manager Rich Jagger was choosing his words a little more carefully when we spoke to him after the game while conceding his players were second best in every department.
Beverley return to Norwood Park next Saturday for a second cup match; this time against Sculcoates Amateurs in the League Cup.
