Local cricket: Spirited display by Beverley despite defeat
In local cricket on Saturday (June 22), an unbeaten century from overseas signing Zac Keune (110 not out) set up a 61 runs victory for Stamford Bridge over Beverley Cricket Club at Norwood Park.
It sees them move up to third in the Yorkshire Premier League North table, despite a spirited display from hosts Beverley Town.
The Australian shared stands of 71 and 109 with Ryan McKendry (30) and James Keast (44); those coming on the back of an opening partnership worth 79 between Kyle Waite (33) and Jonny Rawsthorne (39), which meant Stamford Bridge were able to post an imposing total of 274-4.
No doubt buoyed by a maiden victory the previous week Beverley put on a spirited display. Olly Grantham (49) narrowly missed out on a half-century and the middle order trio of Peter Shally (33), Anthony Spence (31) and Ben Fish (44) all contributed valuable runs before all four were dismissed by Ryan McKendry, who finished with season best figures of 5-57.
The hosts’ total of 213-8 fell well short of victory but was enough to earn them two points..
