Local cricket: Run fest at Norwood
There were over 500 runs scored at Norwood Park on Saturday (June 16) in the match between local rivals Beverley Town and Driffield Town Seconds, and of those 161 came from the bat of Driffield’s Luke Ramsey.
There was little sign of things to come when the visitors lost their opening two wickets with only three runs on the board, but a third wicket stand of 207 between Ramsey and Jon Vodden (80) rescued the innings in spectacular fashion.
Connor Bowden took three of the five wickets to fall at a cost of 71 as the visitors closed on 276-5.
Beverley made a valiant attempt to chase down the target, led by 91 from Ben Hatfield but despite a number of other batsmen reaching 30 none were able to go on to play the decisive innings and they eventual fell short, finishing on 225-7.
Driffield claimed 26 points in this winning draw; Beverley 12 points.
