Local cricket: Beverley never recover from poor start
In the York & District Senior Cricket League on Saturday (August 3), bottom of the table Beverley’s First XI travelled to Clifton Park to play York. And York skipper Duncan Snell was the the day’s star, scoring 82 and taking a hat-trick to help secure maximum points for the home side.
The opener passed 50 for the fortieth time in the competitions history and on the way became the first batsmen to score 4000 runs in Yorkshire League North.
A second wicket partnership of 98 with Australian James Billington (44) provided the majority of runs required to overhaul Beverley’s total of 168.
The target looked like being considerably less when Town found themselves at 53-7 following three wickets from Jack Charters (3-46) and a trio of lbws by Snell (3-20), but to their credit Olly Grantham (48) and Jamie Roe (45) dug in adding 84 for the eighth wicket, Daniel Woods eventually dismissing both on his way to figures of 3-35.
