Local chef wows TV judges

Big things are being predicted for a former Beverley Food Festival young chef winner after he made the final four in this year’s MasterChef The Professionals, screened by the BBC. Jamie Park (pictured) was the winner of the 2010 Copper Saucepan final for apprentice chefs, organised by the Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitality Association and held at the Beverley festival.

At the time Jamie, now 27, was a commis chef at the Pipe and Glass in South Dalton having studied for his NVQ in practical and professional cookery at Hull College. From South Dalton he moved on to Middlethorpe Hall at York and then, three years ago, moved to London to join chef Adam Handling’s team at the highly-rated Frog Restaurant in Shoreditch.

At the time of filming Masterchef he was the restaurant’s sous chef but has since been appointed head chef and is tipped to become a star name after impressing judges with consistent and inventive dishes throughout the TV contest. He eventually made it to finals week, but lost out and had to watch his fellow three finalists compete in the final two days of challenges.
