Local charity launches Caring Christmas appeal
Age UK East Riding, whose headquarters are in Beverley, is launching its annual Caring Christmas Appeal. The charity is urging people throughout the East Riding to get involved by donating a shoebox-sized Christmas hamper. The hampers will then be distributed just before Christmas to lonely and isolated and vulnerable older people in the area.
Last year residents of the East Riding donated several hundred hampers which were distributed by Age UK staff, volunteers and community groups. The shoeboxes should be filled with non-perishable food such as tins of soup, fish or fruit as well as items such as tea, coffee, biscuits and a luxury item, although home-made food products and alcohol cannot be accepted. Food items must have a ‘use-by’ date of at least February 2018.
The box and lid should be wrapped separately with Christmas paper. The boxes should be delivered to the Age UK East Riding office at 16 North Bar Within, Beverley, before Monday December the 4th or any Age UK shop in the East Riding as soon as possible before this date. Those making a donation are urged to include a Christmas card with a festive greeting as a personal greeting.
