Life-saving kit for pets

Fire engines around East Yorkshire are being equipped with pet oxygen masks after £1,000 was raised by local dog walkers.

Jane Kinnear and Pam Campling organised a dog walk to raise money for Smokey Paws, which creates the masks to help save animals following fires. Jane was inspired to raise the money after a friend lost two dogs following a house fire last year.

The money was used to fund 12 pet oxygen masks which will be used in Beverley, Driffield, Hornsea, and at nine other locations across East Yorkshire.

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service says its crews frequently use the masks to provide oxygen to animals, particularly following a house fire.
