32 year old female living in the Beverley area is looking for a 2 experienced support workers to support with 39 hours per week across 7 days. This will be on a rota basis. Candidates must have knowledge and experience of autism, OCD and Makaton communication.
We are looking for applicants who are flexible and able to provide consistency and routine. Recipient of direct payments support needs include: high functioning autism, hypertension, communication needs and mobility support which includes transfers and at times wheelchair use. Basic Makaton would be one of several communication strategies to have experience in when the individual is non-verbal. Effective communication is essential candidates must be thoughtful and considerate in their communication and actions.
Recipient of direct payments is a very passionate and talented artist and other interests include dogs, swimming, camping, watching films, fashion and shopping, therefore we are seeking support workers with similar interests.
Duties will include
1). Administering medication and ordering medication.
2). Support to develop independent living skills
3). Shopping and meal preparation
4) personal cares such as showering, and personal care prompts with toileting.
5) dressing, undressing – and support with choosing of clothes
6) support to maintain routine
7) correspondence and attending appointments
8) engaging in the community and in activities
9) Support with domestic tasks and encouraging independence
10) Must be prepared to liaise with other agencies/employment support when necessary.
The candidate must be a calm, warm, caring, patient, cheerful and compassionate individual who is sensitive to and able to positively manage and respond to the needs of the individual to support mental health and well being. The candidate should be enthusiastic, resourceful, and proactive and have a good sense of humour and be comfortable around dogs.
It is essential that the candidate is organised, timely, flexible and hard working. The candidate must be able to use their own initiative whilst also ensuring that an environment for maximising independence and maintaining and safety in the home and in the community. The candidate should be able to monitor and respond effectively to changes in behaviours and presentation. The candidate will be able to positively encourage learning and independence.
The successful applicant will require have an understanding nature and be supportive and patient with the ability to manage situations and vulnerabilities. The candidate must be able to be sensitive to the needs of the individual, promoting privacy and dignity.
It is essential that the candidate has a genuine interest in building and maintaining a positive relationship, engaging in activities that are of interest and meaningful for the individual in the home and in the community and ensuring that the individual gets the most and best quality out of her care package to maximise independence and enable full participation.
