Hull City 2-0 Birmingham City

Hull City secured back-to-back wins for the first time this season with a 2-0 victory against 10-man Birmingham City. Goals in each half from George Honeyman and Mallik Wilks secured the Tigers all three points at the MKM Stadium, with Gary Gardner being sent off for an off-the-ball incident.

Grant McCann made two changes to his starting XI that defeated Barnsley 2-0 last time out. Sean McLoughlin and Ryan Longman replaced Lewie Coyle and Callum Elder respectively, while academy graduate Jevon Mills was named on the bench.

Wilks had the first opportunity of the game as his header was held by Matija Sarkic, while Nathan Baxter denied Gardner in the other goal. Keane Lewis-Potter then headed over from Longman’s cross before the Tigers opened the scoring on 17 minutes. Longman drove down the left wing before squaring the ball back to Honeyman to poke home from close range.

Di’Shon Bernard searched for a second with a long-range drive but his effort was well watched by Sarkic. At the other end, Baxter produced a fantastic one-on-one save to deny Scott Hogan.

The Blues were reduced to 10 men just before half-time as Gardner leaned in with his head towards Magennis, with referee Tony Harrington showing the Birmingham midfielder the red card. Longman almost doubled the Tigers’ lead before the break but his right-footed effort curled wide.
