Hand in your old glasses to help others
Staff at Beverley’s Specsavers opticians are encouraging people to bring in old or unwanted glasses which are being recycled and donated to local charity Jacob’s Well, who distribute them to Third World countries around the world.
The project is working to help adults and children and a spokesman said “These glasses are invaluable to those who can not otherwise afford them, giving them the gift of sight. We have just completed filling our first container to Somaliland. We are working with a charity that was formed by British people with family members living in the region. This is a very poor area of the world with very limited medical facilities.”
Janet Beesley, store director of Specsavers in Toll Gavel, said: “In a final push before Christmas we want to encourage everyone to look high and low for any old and unwanted glasses that can help to improve the eye health and quality of life of both children and adults in third world countries.”
