PR: Hall Road vs Grimsby Borough (Cup)

Hall Road joint boss Leon Sewell admits that his side face a true test on Tuesday night when they welcome Grimsby Borough to Haworth Park in the Second Round of the NCEL League Cup.

“On Tuesday night, we welcome Grimsby Borough to Haworth Park. They’re a team of high calibre players that are currently flying high in the NCEL Premier Division sitting top of the league. It’s going to be a true test for us and one that I expect the Hall Road Rangers lads to stand up and get in the rhythm of the game quickly” he said.

Borough are the NCEL Premier Division league leaders and have only lost two of their 15 league games so far this season. These defeats came in their last two league games as they suffered successive 4-1 losses at Eccleshill United and Penistone Church.

They’ve got the best attack in their league having bagged 39 goals. Therefore, Daniel Barrett’s team have some dangerous attacking players at their disposal. These include top scorer Daniel Trott with nine goals in all competitions to his name and Lewis Collins who has six goals. Other goal threats within the Grimsby Borough ranks are Reece York, Jack Debnam and Adam Drury. York, Debnam and Drury all have five goals.

However, this is a good opportunity for Rangers to test themselves against this sort of opposition. It’s also a chance to progress further in the competition and keep the momentum going after two successive league wins against FC Humber United and Retford FC.

These sides have faced each other before in this competition on one previous occasion which took place in the 2018/19 season. This was a Third Round tie at Haworth Park which Rangers won 5-0 thanks to a Jacob Norburn brace and goals from Josh Tennant, Kieron Walker and Fraser Hansen.
