Geri Halliwell on stage at Beverley theatre
Onlookers were forced to do a double take this afternoon (Thursday September 7th) when former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell dropped into Beverley’s East Riding Theatre, having arrived in town by helicopter.
Geri (pictured, second left) met up with the cast of the theatre’s new musical, It’s Different For Girls, which opened last night and runs until September 23rd. It’s Different for Girls is based on original sixties Hull girl group Mandy and the Girlfriends and is performed by the theatre’s in-house production group She Productions, which coincidentally is an all-female group as well.
Former members of the Girlfriends were there and sang on stage with Geri for a filmed report, which will be screened on the BBC One Show over the next few days. “Mandy was the only one of the former Girlfriends who couldn’t be present for the reunion because she now lives abroad, so The One Show had the brilliant idea of asking Geri to fill in for her!” said a spokesman for the theatre.
“She was spotted by a passer-by as she arrived at the theatre and soon we had a big crowd, including a lot of staff from County Hall across the road, watching the scene unfold.”
Two of the cast of It’s Different For Girls will be talking to Les Smith on The Morning Mix tomorrow (Friday) at about 11.20am
