From Poldark to Bishop Burton

A former student of Bishop Burton College, who has gone on to travel the world and work on some of the biggest shows on television, has spoken of his delight at returning to his roots. Ben Atkinson headlined the opening ceremony at the F E I European Championships for Ponies, which was held at the college last week.

His family has supplied stunt horses for the likes of Poldark, Peaky Blinders, Victoria and the film adaptation of War Horse, from their former dairy farm, near Goole.

Ben, 24, studied Level 3 in Equine Management while at Bishop Burton and in spite of traveling around world  – he has recently returned from Dubai – he said it was a real thrill to be able to put on a visual spectacle back at the college where it all began.

At last week’s championships, Team GB secured gold in a competition which saw riders from 16 countries competing in the three Olympic disciples of dressage, showjumping and eventing.
