A UNIQUE auction is planned for July to raise money for the Two Churches, One Town appeal which needs another £15 million to ensure the long-term future of Beverley Minster and St Mary’s Church. The public is being invited to donate items for auction, alongside treasures discovered in both churches.

The auction will be conducted by BBC Bargain Hunt presenter Caroline Hawley on Saturday July 8 but ahead of that there will be two valuation days when Caroline will talk about antiques and invite the audience to bring items for a free valuation. These will take place on Fridays May 12 and June 23, from 12 noon to 5pm each day. Entrance to hear the talk will cost £5 with all proceeds to the appeal. Full details here

EAST Yorkshire Council is working alongside local mental health charity Hull and East Yorkshire Mind to encourage East Riding residents to reduce their social media usage throughout April to improve their mental health and wellbeing. It’s said the time spent on social media every day is increasing, with individuals averaging 136 minutes a day.

The Pause campaign, which also ran in 2021, is designed to give people the opportunity to improve their mental health by reducing their social media usage. Adam Gibson, of the council, told us: “Taking regular breaks and limiting social media use supports positive mental wellbeing and can help to reduce anxiety – many of us subconsciously compare lifestyles and achievements against those of friends or social media influencers which can have negative effects on mental health and lead us to forget what is real life.” More details here
