Dozens of pubs and restaurants and some shops across Beverley and East Yorkshire are having to close because of losing staff to Covid infections and contact tracing isolation. Beverley’s Kings Head told us they’ve been struggling for several weeks and had to close on Tuesday. Another landlord told us they’re waiting for staff to get the results of NHS tests to see if they can reopen at the weekend. They added the situation is going to get worse before it gets better, especially with restrictions due to be lifted next week. They said it’s a disaster for the local hospitality sector trying to recover after the long lockdown.

Beverley MP Graham Stuart, has welcomed immediate action from East Riding Council to address playground vandalism. The improvements come after the MP joined social action group the Wombles of Beverley on a litter-pick of Samman Road and Burden Road play areas. Broken glass and anti-social behaviour were among issues raised. Mr Stuart told Beverley FM the council has pledged to carry out improvements at Burden Road, including repairs to the soft-surfaces and the replacement of some older equipment.

And finally, Humberside Police are appealing for help to locate the next of kin for 90-year-old Howard Fernie. Howard was sadly found dead at his home in Richmond Way, Beverley on Tuesday. If you can help, call police on the non emergency number 101 quoting log 631 of July 13.
