Police have confirmed they are treating two vehicle fires in Beverley as arson and have issued a CCTV image of a possible suspect. The lorries were parked in Swinemoor Lane and Grove Hill Road, and were targeted in the early hours of Wednesday morning. A loud explosion was heard across the town. Officers told Beverley FM that they are making extensive enquiries and have issued an appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident, or knows the man in the photograph, to come forward. They added that it was lucky no one was injured and that the fires were extinguished quickly. Anyone with information can call the non-emergency number 101 quoting crime reference 16/89362/21. It’s been revealed that an international drugs gang were intercepted with the seizure of £1.6 million pounds of drugs in our area. The operation involved a new Roads Crime Team working with partners in Europe and the United States. A spokesperson told us that drugs are a problem across East Yorkshire. In their first year, the new team has intercepted £3 million of drugs and seized nearly £700k of property and cash, in addition to further drugs hauls. East Riding Council are giving away compost. Around 5,000 15kg bags will be handed out for free to local residents at a series of events. The contents are made up of recycled garden and food waste from brown bins. Officials told us that it’s the Council’s way of thanking residents for their continued support of their recycling schemes.
