FOOTBALL: Beverley Town all set for new season
Humber Premier League side Beverley Town are looking forward to the new season, which starts on Saturday August 19th with a “home” game against Hedon Rangers, a team that struggled last season, avoiding relegation by finishing in 13th place, one place above the relegation spot.
For the new season, however, all Beverley’s home matches will have to be played away – at Hutton Cranswick’s ground – as the Beverley Town pitch at Norwood is the subject of major reconstruction work.
Pre-season for Town has gone really well; despite opening with a 2-0 defeat in a friendly against Hall Road Rangers. That was followed with a flurry of games which saw Town’s Alex Stark net a hat-trick in a 3-1 friendly victory against Liv Supplies; followed by another 3-1 win over Robin Hood Athletic – Josh Davies getting a brace in that game.
Next up was a 1-1 draw away against North Cave and then a 3-1 victory over Central Midlands side AFC Bentley, with Craig Muirhead netting a hat-trick.
In the most recent pre-season game (Thursday August 3rd), Town chalked up another 3-1 win over St George AFC, with Ryan Saltmer grabbing a brace. So confidence is high for the new season, in which Town will be bidding to improve on last season’s 9th spot.
Other Humber Premier League fixtures to follow this month are: 23rd away v Pocklington Town, 26th away v Hornsea Town, and 29th home v Hessle Rangers.
