Football: Adkins signs two more
Hull City today (July 18) completed a sixth signing of the summer with goalkeeper George Long joining from Sheffield United for an undisclosed fee.
The 24-year-old has signed a three-year deal, with an additional one-year option held by the club, and adds to Nigel Adkins’ goalkeeping options.
Long has played under Adkins before during his time with the Blades and is delighted to be joining up with the head coach once again.
“I’ve known about the interest for a few weeks, so I’m excited to be here as a Hull City player now,” said Long.
“I’ve played under the head coach before and I really enjoyed that spell, so that was a big factor in me coming here. Hopefully I can continue to kick-on under him here.”
As well as having played more than 120 times for Sheffield United, his hometown club, Long has also had loan spells with Oxford United, Motherwell and, most recently, AFC Wimbledon where he impressed during 49 appearances for the League One side last season.
On Tuesday (July 17) City announced the loan signing of right back Todd Kane from Chelsea. 24-year-old Kane has joined on a season-long deal. He has been on Chelsea’s books since the age of eight and has previously enjoyed a number of loan spells away from Stamford Bridge, including time spent with Blackburn Rovers, Nottingham Forest and most recently Oxford United.
Speaking after joining the Tigers, Kane said: “I feel privileged to have been given this opportunity at a great club.
“I can’t wait to get playing after speaking to the head c
oach here. He’s told me that this is a young, energetic group of players and I’m looking forward to working in this environment.”
Although yet to feature for Chelsea’s first team, Kane has more than 120 appearances in senior football to his name and has represented England at U19 level.
