Food for thought: Restaurant openings and closures
Beverley’s dining out scene has seen a number of recent announced closures and openings. Firstly, Cosmo’s, a flaming grill bar and restaurant in Wednesday Market, announced via social media that it would be closing its doors for the last time this week (on Monday, March 26th). Then Rumi’s Indian restaurant in New Walkergate suddenly announced on Twitter that it had closed. There was little by way of explanation but there were suggestions a new operation would be unveiled shortly in Hull.
Finally, the Crown and Anchor at Tickton closed suddenly last week following what was being described as a dispute between licensee Mark Cross and the pub’s owners. Earlier Mr Cross announced that he had taken over the Rose & Crown in Beverley, which is due to reopen this coming Sunday, but said he planned to run both pubs in tandem.
Positive news has come with the announcement that a new Asian restaurant is to open in Flemingate in June following the recent addition there of Brazilian restaurant Estabulo Bar and Grill. The Sumo Pan Asian Restaurant will be located next to Subway and will specialise in Oriental street food. And finally a new Turkish restaurant, the Istanbul Bar and Restaurant, has opened in Wylies Road.
And sticking with a food theme, the family behind the successful Bert’s pizzeria and cafe at Brandesburton, has announced a similar operation in the Fruit Market area of Hull. Still in the early stages of planning, Bert’s say the new restaurant will be located near to the open air stage area alongside the River Hull, adjacent to the C4DI tech hub.
