First class post; second-class service
Beverley and Holderness MP Graham Stuart wants to end the practice of undelivered Royal Mail parcels in Hornsea being taken back to the depot in Beverley to await collection or re-delivery.
Mr Stuart said more than 8,000 residents currently faced a 25-mile round trip to collect their undelivered post. And to compound the issue, he said the Beverley depot on Annie Reed Road was out of town and therefore not easily accessible on bus routes from Hornsea.
He has written immediately to Royal Mail urging them to press forward with the changes after the Post Office signalled their support for the move.
The MP has campaigned to strengthen postal services in Hornsea and in January 2018 supported the Post Office’s attempts to find a new postmaster in order to continue vital services at the Cliff Road branch. He said: “I want to see major improvements to postal services in Hornsea. Residents in a substantial town like this should not be expected to travel far to collect their mail, and I’m glad to hear that the Post Office are on-board.”
